Make half your GRAINS whole
Whole grains, like whole-wheat bread, are packed full of nutrients and complex carbohydrates. Whole grains help keep your heart healthy and they give you long-lasting energy!
Read Your Food Labels
Reading labels is also a pretty important task to do when trying to eat healthier. How can you tell if the grain you are eating is a whole grain?
- Make sure the first ingredient on the list says “whole” or “100% whole grain”
- Color does not indicate that a food is a whole grain.
- Watch for tricky descriptive names. Packages with these words may not be whole grain:
- Wheat flour
- Semolina
- Enriched Flour
- Wheat Germ
- Multigrain
