Make half your GRAINS whole

Whole grains, like whole-wheat bread, are packed full of nutrients and complex carbohydrates.  Whole grains help keep your heart healthy and they give you long-lasting energy!

Read Your Food Labels

Reading labels is also a pretty important task to do when trying to eat healthier.  How can you tell if the grain you are eating is a whole grain?

  • Make sure the first ingredient on the list says “whole” or “100% whole grain”
  • Color does not indicate that a food is a whole grain.
  • Watch for tricky descriptive names.  Packages with these words may not be whole grain:
    • Wheat flour
    • Semolina
    • Enriched Flour
    • Wheat Germ
    • Multigrain
